HK Broadband TVCs

Thanks for the contribution from an anonymous reader who sent me these links. Brilliant TVCs are rare these days. I've been seeing these TVCs for a while but didn't have time to locate them. These are the follow-on TVCs from the last one, still playing mockery of PCCW. Personally I like the Graham Bell version more. Making fun out of a dead person is usually a taboo and going into this route can be a possible turn-off. However, it manages to blend in some thoughtful executions into the TVC to ensure it is surreal and fun : the 粵語長片-like setting, the cute 牛頭馬臉 and the funny dialogue. As for the Ant version, it's not as creative as the Graham Bell version but it ls along the same concept with the last TVC. If we put both TVCs together, they are more like coming from the same series. The Graham Bell one is more creative but it's an odd one out. And I guess that's why they chose to shoot and air both at the same time. Good that they have the budget. But if you had just enough budget to shoot one TVC only, how would you choose ? Go for the Graham Bell one or the Ant one ? Not easy.

Yes, this TVC is a pretty outstanding one, especially when most of them are just so-so these couple of years..

Do you have any information about which agency did this? thanks a lot!

It is really not easy to choose among two. As long as they have such huge budget, they will make these 2 versions. Otherwise, with limited budget, they just create the 3rd version.

but seems to me, the 牛頭馬臉 version is more appealing to mature group (who are not familiar with internet stuff) and little child

and the Ant version is more appealing to the educated/teenage group as it mentioned kind of technical terms

- Thanks, Alex !

- Don't know who their agency is ....

- It seems to me both TVCs are quite a mass appeal to internet users in general.

this is an interesting tvc, but may not be a good marketing campaign. most netvigator users don't think they have problem in speed, how could hkbn move them to switch?

i thought the previous tvc may have no impact to their sales figures... until one day they can tell netvigator users the benefits that netvigator is unable to provide.

i'm netvigator user, enjoying now.com and NOW TV with no hiccup from from technical part and customer service. i need to take risk to switch to hkbn with poor customer service and unstable quality... do i have better choice?

if i were hkbn, i would not choose both...

Yes you are right that we are evaluating it just at the advertising level. While speed is the benefit it claims, it also depends on the actual experience. I'm aware that it has a speed test at the website for people to experience the speed : http://www.hkbn.net/bb1000/. Mybe they should encourage people to do a speed test in the TVC. I use Netvigator and NOW too. I do experience speed lags from time to time. I guess it depends on where you live. At the end, whether it is successful to steal share from PCCW would depend on the number of satisfied/dissatisfied customers of PCCW. An ad will not do the magic.

the revenge from PCCW with their new service 1000M+

I am also using PCCW for many years, to the common user level, PCCW's speed is OK for browsing websites, downloading things, etc. and with good customer service.

But to those users who perform heavy uploading tasks (like BT, designer house sending large files, etc) PCCW is actually very weak on it. So I think the new PCCW 1000M+ service can really help PCCW to get back those customer.

And after continously "attack" from competitors, PCCW this "revenge" TVC could really draw some noise and claps from audiences!

According to 案內人隨筆's blog, PCCW will strike back with their TVC tonight.
