HK Laser Eye Centre print ad

Image
I reckon that among all the Lasik centres, the ads of HK Laser Eye Centre are all pretty good. Like this one, the idea is simple enough, using complaint as the handle and with an over-the-top act of breaking a pair of glasses to catch our attention. The idea is there but how do we execute it better ? First I think there is a colour problem : the background, the T-shirt of the lady and the table are all white. Probably there can be other colour combination to better highlight the pair of glasses. Also the shot can potentially be taken in a different angle so that the pair of glasses and the hammer don't look that small. How to take the shoot exactly ? I have no clue. I'm not a photographer but a commentator who only gives comments ...

Vidal Sassoon 50th Anniversary Bottle (?)

Image
It's the 50th anniversary of Vidal Sassoon and they have a specially designed bottle to commemorate it. And they used a double page to advertise as well. What's the catch ? None. It doesn't offer any special benefit to consumer at all. Will the consumer buy more when the same shampoo is contained in a commemorative bottle ? I doubt it. Would they love the brand so much that they will save the bulky bottle as a collectible ? A promotion that does nothing ... They must have too much money to spend ...

7-Eleven 迷你扭蛋機

Image
Glad that 7-Eleven has broken the curse of Hello Kitty at last. It is My Melody this time. Another character from Sanrio which owns Hello Kitty. These 迷你扭蛋機 were sold through the 扭蛋機 at 7-Eleven. I heard they were hot and all of them ran out in just a few days. Would 7-Elven have made a fortune out of it ? Probably not. But it drove traffic to their stores and helped the sales of other items. One clever promotion.

Ocean Park 30th anniversary promotion

Image
Ocean Park is going strong while Disney is still struggling. From this promotion, you can tell why. Ocean Park has a very Hong Kong culture and represents the values of Hong Kong. Flexible, opportunistic and adaptive. The contents of their 30th anniversary promotion includes all the topical elements : cooking competition, classic cooking, retro dance and all kind of 集體回憶 events. In fact, Ocean Park is no longer an ocean park. It's more like an fun fair with ever-changing attractions. Comparatively, Disney is a dinosaur, a global conglomerate that is slow, inflexible and insensitive to the market.

More TVCs

Just got back from a business trip. Too tired to write ... Here are some TVCs for your enjoyment. Excuse me.

Hong Thai congratulation ad

Image
Another congratulation ad from the magazine. Hong Thai this time. Who's this lady ? She must be one of the bosses of Hong Thai or related to the bosses of Hong Thai. Graduated with a Master Degree in Marketing from some Napier University ? Big deal. If you have a son who graduated from Harvard, you may think about advertsing on the front page of Apple or Oriental Daily ! Let's not advertise for our own pleasure. It's an abuse of advertising.

Babila congratulation ad

Image
It's a print ad in Next Magazine. Who is this guy ? My wild guess is that he's the boss of Babila. A pure shoe-shining ad that makes the boss feel good by having business partners to contribute "sponsorships" to pay for the ad. It's a nonsense. Advertising should be used to communicate with consumers. In this case, the message is totally irrelevant to us ... a waste of paper ...
